Yunnan Spring Greetings (VII)
Evening Mood and Morning Light: A Mountain near Pu’er
Once again, we hit the mark with our hotel choice in Pu’er (普洱). It is spacious, the rooms are stylish and blend perfectly with the environment, and—best of all—there are two large pools. I had them almost to myself, sharing the heated one with just a few kids.
On our very first evening, we drove up a nearby mountain to catch the spectacular colors of the dusk.

South of the Clouds
The Chinese language is fascinating in its literal logic. Take the name of this province: Yunnan (云南). Yun (云) means “cloud” and Nan (南) means “south.” We are, quite literally, “South of the Clouds.”
Looking at the photos from the next morning, particularly the phenomenon known as the Sea of Clouds (云海), it becomes immediately clear how this region earned its name.
