From a Winter Hater
I don’t really like winter. And that’s a real shame, because Austria generally has a particularly beautiful one to offer, whether for winter sports or just for hikes through enchanting, snow-covered landscapes. The last time I was on skis was decades ago, and that pretty much says it all about my relationship with the season.

And then, occasionally, my better half or friends manage to persuade me to go on a short trip. Every single time, I find myself completely captivated—by the deep stillness that these winter landscapes radiate, by their quiet brilliance, and by the incredible play of light and shadow.

This year, I’m dealing with a particularly stubborn cold, so this article today is just a quick “hello!” from me. I was encouraged to share this because my “Autumn Greetings” post, with impressions from around my area, was so well-received.

Winter Greetings from Innsbruck
Most people know Innsbruck, particularly winter sports enthusiasts. The following three photos, 2 were taken from our hotel room at the Hilton-Innsbruck, one from Bergisel, looking out at the Alps, show just how dramatically the entire atmosphere can shift, all within the span of the early morning hours

Salzkammergut region

Dachstein and Rax-Schneeberg Group
It’s always hard to select just a few photos from so many. As a stand-in for all the other beautiful places, I want to show you an area in the Upper Austria and Styria area. It has an enchanting charm that is entirely its own.

Make the most of this winter season, stay healthy, and take good care!
