And all the best for 2025!
Merry Fir Tree is probably not ideal. Every year I ask myself what the correct wording for Christmas greetings is. (Like before) “Merry Christmas” is common in my culture, but I have already understood that it is almost offensive in another culture. It is not important to me, as Christmas has little meaning for me anymore. But out of old tradition, I stick with it. Merry Xmas or Season Greetings seem to me like a lazy compromise to avoid having to say the “C-word”.
So my greeting card this year looks very traditional again 😊

Although I no longer need greeting cards. In my best days I received over 50 Christmas cards each year – and probably sent even more. This year, as has been the case for a long time, I received ONE “Merry Christmas” card. From my tax advisor. He is roughly my age group and has more important things to do than think about Christmas cards.
Alternative
In order not to appear completely out of date, I have designed another one for my readers who have already dealt with Zen or at least can appreciate it:

Why I am not happy about the lazy compromises mentioned is because I am opposed to language being instrumentalized for political or ideological purposes. The following thing occurred in the communist DDR (GDR). The political leaders were faced with an ideological dilemma: Christmas was a celebration that was deeply rooted in society and of course everyone celebrated it. In our region, the “Christ Child” (Christkind) comes at Christmas and his Christmas angels hand out the presents. Now, what to do with those angels – they have a Christian connotation. Then the term „Jahresendflügelfigur“ ( “year-end-winged-figure”) was used.
I had that in the back of my mind and asked AI whether it was true. Well, partly. A satirical magazine coined the term, but it then became so popular that many people used it.
But there is nothing wrong with New Year’s wishes and so I wish everyone a
Happy New Year 2025!
